EchoHEALTH is a research project developed by the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre (BMC). It was submitted to the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme, where it received a high evaluation, confirming its quality and significance.

An experienced scientist, Alvis Brāzma, has been recruited to lead the project. He is an internationally recognised bioinformatician — a data researcher with nearly 30 years of experience at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI).

Under his leadership, a new research team will be established at BMC to study human health and disease using Latvia’s biobanking resources and available health data. As part of the project, a One Health Informatics Centre will be created, which will support the development of new scientific ideas and strengthen research capacity in Latvia both during and after the project.

The project will contribute to the development of new approaches to improving public health, including efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance and cancer. It will foster collaboration across different sectors and follow the World Health Organisation’s One Health principles. In addition, the project will train young specialists and promote
innovative research directions.
